There’s a look taking over the UK at the moment known as “smart-chavual”. It takes the style of the average unemployed British teenager (being track pants, white supermarket trainers and a fake Nike baseball cap) and makes it slightly more sophisticated and job-worthy by adding a polo shirt and a Harrington style jacket. While I like to keep it traditional to my country and rock a kilt with some Air Jordans (
see Kid Cudi), “smart-chavual” is growing in popularity with many brands such as Fred Perry being the forefront of the “revolutionary” look. It is then, somewhat refreshing to see a new UK brand taking items such as the Harrington jacket back to it’s roots and tapping into the celebrity heritage it has, with stars such as James Dean and Steve McQueen rocking one, back in the day.
Baracuta are the brand in hand and have been producing their classic G9 jacket since way back in 1937 (no-one reading or writing this blog is probably that old so ask your grandparents) and were suppliers to such stars as mentioned earlier and still to this day can be seen on the backs of bands such as Razorlight and artists such as Pete Doherty. Their new jacket, named the G35, or “Dean”, uses a similar style to the classic G9, but gives it a 2011 upgrade with button cuffs, a semi-elasticated waist and two-way zip puller. The jacket is made from 100% cotton canvas and so acts as a perfect wind-breaker for the coming Spring & Summer months.
The jacket along with loads of their other products can be purchased online from
Baracuta’s website, in their London store and online from a selection of stores worldwide, listed on their
stockists page.
