LOOKBOOKS: Prada Spring 2010

I can never be disappointed in Prada. Consistently, Miuccia’s touch of rebel subverts everything within sight, from converting swamp-man waders into thigh-high rubber boots (from Fall 2009), to using old lady black lace in a darkly sexy way (from Fall 2008). Spring doesn’t disappoint, replete with visual eyegasms and boatloads of contradiction.

We can start with their newest advertising video, featuring Rasa Zukauskaite and directed by Steven Meisel. Mashing three wildly different pieces of music together, much like the density of those rocks on clear plastic handbags, makes for an interesting bit of advertising. There’s also, if you watch closely, a strong contrast between the fragility of a crystal dress over denser fabrics.

Then there’s that absolutely (forgive the cliché) fierce lookbook, which masterfully explodes that already slightly macabre Japanese beach into manipulations of perception, that play with the mind’s eye, as well as the pair at the front of your skull.
