From Karl Lagerfeld to Stella McCartney, Madonna, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli, Kylie Minogue, and Jimmy Choo, limited-edition designer collections for fast-fashion retailer H&M reach fever pitches with younger and older women alike clutching posters and catalogues, camping outside of flagships around the world on the cold, hard concrete. Critics praise the accesibility of the pieces, adults pack their bags for a night in front of Eaton Centre, waiting for that perfect empire waisted leopard print floor length gown.
In anticipation for the launch of their latest collection, H&M has decided on being a cocktease and releasing five seven videos of shadowed designers giving a short sound byte on their design philosophies. Fashionologie suspects that the voice of “Smart Women” may be Tomas Maier, the creative director of Botega Venneta, and “The Future of Fashion” NYC heavyweight Carolina Herrera. My hypothesis: “Design is Relevant” sounds a lot like Alber Elbaz from Lanvin, but the figure in the video certainly is not. Voiceover? Perhaps. Either way, we’ll be stocking up on camping gear at Canadian Tire.
