FASHION:The Hundreds x Disney “Lost Boys” Collection

thehundreds psfk FASHION:The Hundreds x Disney “Lost Boys” Collection

I hate to admit it, but I wasn’t that excited when I heard about The Hundreds’ collaboration with Disney. I was just indifferent…like “meh”. But after finally getting a detailed look at what’s to come from this collaboration, more precisely after seeing the New Era caps, I’m as excited as an 8 year old! Except instead of begging my mom for one of those Mickey hats with the ears, I’m begging my mom for The Hundreds’ Peter Pan New Era cap…but I’m not 8 years old…and I still live with my mom…and that’s kinda less exciting, and more depressing!

The collection includes one style for women, the “Tens X Disney” has a limited production of 100 t-shirts per colorway. For men, the “Lost Boys” collection will feature one t-shirt for every “Lost Boys” character, each of which will come in two colorways, with 200-piece production runs per color. The second New Era cap in the collection is a Captain Hook commemorative, complete with 3-D embroidered skull and bones on the front and made of black felt, not unlike Hook’s hat. I’ll have to be quick to get my hands on the Peter Pan edition, as both styles are limited to 100 caps each… worldwide!

10.DEEP Holiday 2008 Lookbook
Its the holiday season and we just got our first holiday party out of the way…and boy are we happy! This year, instead of leaving with a basket of assorted jams, shortbread cookies and fruitcake (none of which ever have expiry dates on them, which can be very frightening when you try to think of just how many times one of these can be re-gifted year after year after year after… ) Ahoodie was the lucky “Secret (non-denominational) Santa” recipent of the new 10.DEEP Holiday 2008 lookbook. Score!

Continuing with the same outdoors-y theme seen in their Fall ’08 lookbook, 10.DEEP goes on to feature their latest knit and outerwear fashions in an outstanding format. It’s no surprise we’re seeing this New York based brand pop-up all over the place, they exude some kind of classic essence. The collection takes on a variety of essential wardrobe pieces and staples, spicing them up with a few brightly coloured items peppered throughout. It’s the kind of brand that if you were to win a $10 000 shopping spree, you’d actually spend it all in their store… rather than buy a $60 t-shirt, then ask for the remaining balance in cash.

You can see the entire lookbook here.

Take a look at this video of the shooting for 10.DEEP’s Holiday lookbook.

Art Direction from Past Tell Museum
First and foremost, I’d like to point out that 808 & The Heartbreaks is pretty fantastic as far as album titles go, it just rolls off the tongue. And for someone like me, who doesn’t even acknowledge the fact that albums even HAVE titles, that is quite the feat! I usually refer to albums in such a manner: “Hey have you heard that new song, from the latest album from that guy who did those good songs last year?!? You knowww…the one with the diamond jesus necklace that had blue-eyes so everyone got mad?!…anyway you gotta hear that song, its sooo good!!!” And if you aren’t able to decipher that into an album title, than you’re not my friend.
This latest album, Kanye’s fourth, gives us a little teaser as to the artistic direction of Mr.West’s long-awaited clothing line Past Tell (or Pastelle, you never know when he might switch it up again!). On the digipack release of his album, there is a message printed on a background composed of colours which remind of Past Tell’s original Pastelle Logo (shown above), the message reads: Art Direction Past Tell Museum.

Also check out this recent New Zealand press conference with Kanye during his trip there to promote the release of his latest album, 808 & The Heartbreaks. Its a good 40 minutes long and Kanye gives a little insight on the direction of his Past Tell clothing line, as well as answers to typically stupid questions asked by the press such as “Who would play the better James Bond (if they ever have a black James Bond), you or Puff Daddy?”

In our ongoing search for the illest varsity jacket, this latest release from A.R.C (in collaboration with Mitchell&Ness), cuts it pretty close. Available in black/red and blue/black colorways, it’s all in the details for this one. Everything from the O.G. leather sleeves, patches and embroidery scream authentic, classic, and most important: QUALITY, varsity style. Well done.

Pastelle Clothing to be released in January
Well the “Love Lockdown” on Kanye’s Pastelle clothing line has finally been lifted, and Yeezy himself has announced that he’ll be releasing some items from the collection online starting in January. To be precise, the items scheduled for release are three pieces recently seen on Kanye: The warrior hoodie from the Dior show, the jacket from the AMA’s, and the above varsity style jacket (the last two personally designed by Yeezy just 3 weeks ago).

Mr.West has said that his shoe collab with Louis Vuitton is “REEEEETARDED” and that the much anticipitated “Air Yeezy” sneakers will be released in March.

New Mario to Milo Hoodies and Sweatshirts

Following Bape’s Baby Milo collab with Mario for the Nintendo DS console, Bape released a series of T-Shirts and is now releasing a pretty nice series of hoodies and sweatshirts for their fashion / game-addicted fans. The hoodies retail at $225, the sweatshirts retail at 155$. All items limited of course. The look is simple but interesting. I think the concept is: if you take the fleece and line em up, you have some sort of leisure-sex scene. Brilliant.

INTERVIEW: The BAPEman speaketh…

nigo bathing ape 5601 INTERVIEW: The BAPEman speaketh...

Complex Magazine Nov.2008: Interview with Nigo

In the wake of his BAPE brand’s 15 year anniversary, Nigo has a chat with Complex Magazine’s Joe La Puma.

Interviews with A Bathing Ape’s boss man are few and far between, so its nice to have a rare opportunity to hear what the man at the top of this clothing/footwear/jewelry/art/celebrity/beddings/retail/publishing (the commemorative BAPE book comes out later this month) empire, has to say about his love life, blogs and criticism. Here are Nigo’s thoughts on a few topics we’ve all wondered about over the years:

We used to sell to something like 40 different stores in Japan… But around 1998, I decided to just cut back to our one store in Tokyo. It didn’t take long until the sales from one store were as good as when we sold throughout the country. That made me realize that this was something bigger than I had imagined.”

Our interpretation: Why use a middle-man, when I can keep all the cash to myself? Why bring the product to you, if I can make YOU come to the product! This way I save on shipping AND increase the tourism industry wherever I set-up shop!

I don’t think our clothes are so expensive; we make things in a very similar system to high-fashion designers… But we are interested in casual clothes. People get our jeans, tees and sweats confused with mass-produced consumer items. We respect the spirit of what we want to do over financial considerations—that’s consistent with our motto, I think.”

Our interpretation: You may whine about the price, but you still fork over the cash. So who’s really confused? Hey, if Louis Vuitton, Prada and Gucci do it, why can’t I?

I sort of fell out of touch with hip-hop… But the thing that got me enthusiastic about it again in the late ’90s was the South, especially Cash Money. So, Lil Wayne wearing the clothes I had made was amazing. I am very pleased if he is known for wearing Bape.”

Our interpretation: Of course I’m pleased, Lil’ Wayne spends a milli, a milli, a milli, a milli, a milli every time he sets foot in one of my stores.

I have a girlfriend, and we have been together for about three years. She is a well-known actress in Japan [Riho Makise], and people are aware of the relationship… But she has her own career, and I don’t want to interfere in that. So, there is a conscious decision to avoid being seen together in public too often.”

Our interpretation: HA! You all thought a dude so busy being the head of an empire, living in his own personal toy emporium, and literally obsessed with geek paraphernalia like me would’ve just settled for a life-size set of KAWS’ TWINS figurines…but HELL NO! Not only do I have a real-life girlfriend, but she is HOT-T-T!

I never read blogs. So, I don’t even hear the criticism about us doing Nike take-offs. I’d like to say that other brands doing Bape knockoffs shows that the brand is recognized and desired… But in reality, it’s really annoying to have to deal with it.”

Our interpretation: Deny, deny, deny…then close with a vague comment.

All in all, Nigo is a true wise-guy, literally (not in a sarcastic, 3 Stooges kind of way). He’s obviously a very intelligent man whose abilities to brand and market what could have been “just another streetwear brand”, have created the highly successful and profitable conglomerate which is A Bathing Ape. Kudos are in order.

mario hoodie HOODIES: Will it ever get old?

MarioFlague Hoodie by Enclothe
With all the problems we’re facing in the present, why not just live in the past? It seems as though a lot of brands prefer to have us pleasantly ponder those things we cherished in the past. Perhaps that is the key to getting us to spend what little coin we have during a time when we should be saving our bottom dollar (rather than betting our bottom dollars). Either way, Nintendo related memorabilia seems to be a favorite to remix and rework into new fashion items for your friends to “ooh and ahh” over and say stupid shit like “oh man, I used to LOVE that game!”…cuz apparently they were onto something when they stumbled upon this “underground” game called Super Mario Bros., while the rest of the world was too caught up in the excitement of Duck Hunt!

Regardless this current marketing tactic bears some fun little fruit from its hypothetical loins, such as this MarioFlague hoodie by Enclothe. This 8-bit inspired, warp pipe themed camo print hoodie is packed with fancy features like an ipod pocket, metal mushroom zipper pull, thumb-holes, and an extra spacious hood (so as not to mess up your mushroom cut)!

Pre-order this hoodie now for only $65 US.

Money Clothing Fall ’08 Knit

Money clothing, a UK brand founded by Nick Cordell and Melvyn DeVilliers in 2003 (later joined by Japanese designer Takashi ‘Maru’ Marujo) has a broad appeal, and a healthy following. Worn by an ecclectic mix of celebrities, from David Beckham to Jay-Z and Ne-Yo. Money clothing is serious about moolah, going as far as incorporating real currency in the fabrication of their goods.

Our favorite item from the Money Clothing autumn collection is this thick knit sweater available in 3 colourways (we’re loving the green and yellow). This chunky zippered knit features kangaroo pockets, a custom zipper pull and ribbing on the collar, cuffs and hem. It’s 100% wool, so keep it away from the dryer unless your chihuahua needs a new sweater.

A little pricy, but worth it for the quality. You can get your hands on the red and gray colorways at Karmaloop for $245 US.

Nigo pimps out his friends by draping them in head to toe BAPE for his Winter 2008 Catalog, but as far as we can tell…they don’t mind. Kanye, Big Sean, both Shay and Pharrell of N.E.R.D, Verbal, Wise , Ilmari and Ryo-Z of the Teriyaki Boys all make an appearance in the Japanese label’s winter catalog. There’s even a cameo by Mr.Bathing Ape himself, Nigo. The collection will likely know an (even more) widespread appeal due to it more subtle themes and global trends. While no one was looking, they hopped into the sack…and now we’ve got The Alaric on our hands! Don’t they say interracial couples make the best looking babies, well same goes for shoes! And just like my parents did, they even gave this shoe a fancy name they can hardly pronounce (lucky for me, they had two trial attempts on my brother and sister first). Alaric was a Visigothic King, and its also a Germanic name that, when broken down, means Ala “everyone’s” and ric “ruler”.

kidrobot folk 41 SNEAKERS: Kidrobot. Shoes for a more mature bot

This Alaric is a great transition shoe, in that its oxford qualities are a “shoe-in” for your work/business-casual functions; meanwhile its trainer physique can take you to the streets when the clock strikes 3:30pm (hey! they don’t call them “everyone’s ruler” for nothing, get the shoes to command everyone to go home early!). Made from gray suede with blue accents, the shoe has tons of detail work including the Robothead logo etched into the suede and a multi-colored Kidrobot label on the heel.

As per usual with Kidrobot collabs, only 100 pairs of the shoes are being produced and will retail at £120. They’ll be available at Kidrobot stores, Folk’s London location, as well as online.
