Hoodies: 101

Hoodie Hoodies: 101

Here are a few questions that we felt needed answering…
1. Why did we create a whole page dedicated to hoodies?
Check out the name of our website and then put your helmet back on before you do any more damage to yourself.

2. Wondering what took us so long to create a whole page dedicated to hoodies?
We’re not the sharpest tools in the shed. Okay, we said it. But we’re on the road to change! Starting with this page!

3. What’s the deal with Ovaltine?
The jar is round, the mug is round. It should be called “Roundtine”. That’s gold, Jerry. GOLD!

Okay, so you think you know everything you need to know about hoodies? You read Ahoodie.com regularly and buy goods off of Karmaloop, so you must be a hoodie connoisseur, right? Well you’re not! But don’t fret, Ahoodie is here to help! In this Level 100 college course, “The Art of Hoodies: 101″, we’ll take you through all the basics of the hoodie. Upon completion of the course ,you’ll feel comfortable talking to any hoodie aficionado and be able to hold your own when hanging with the “hoodlums”…heh heh GET IT?!

First things first, let’s take a little stroll down memory lane and find out the origins of the hoodie. Though hooded garments have been around since Jesus-times, and monks have been rockin’ hoods for centuries, it wasn’t until the 1930′s that the hoodie made its awesome entrance. Champion released the first hoodie as a garment with a purpose: to keep the hardworking laborers of upstate New York warm while fudge-packing meat packing in frigid warehouses. We all know warehouse workers are like, the leaders in fashion trends and forecasting, so it only makes sense that the hoodie started appearing all over the place. On runners and football players, then on their girlfriends after poppin’ their cherries on prom night, hoodies became a clothing commodity for everyone to enjoy.

By the 1970′s, the hoodie was bee-bop’n and skiddadlin’ all over the hip hop scene (woah, I think I just channeled the undead spirit of Bill Cosby), and according to morons contributors on Wikipedia, “the hoodie’s element of instant anonymity, provided by the accessible hood, appealed to those with criminal intent”. Personally, I’m more inclined to think the hoodie appealed to those in the hip hop scene because like most rappers, hoodies look tough on the outside, but are all soft and fuzzy and stoned on the inside.

And the rest, as they say, is history. Forever after that, the hoodie became akin to your favourite hooker: spread over every corner, and she always comes on your back (hey, who are we to judge the hookers you deal with?!). In the 1990′s, the hoodie began poppin’ up on everyone from surfers to skateboarders, and in designer collections from Tommy Hilfiger and Dolce and Gabbana. Even hotshot couture houses like Balenciaga and Givenchy didn’t snub the sweatshirt, and have often featured hoodies in their ready-to-wear collections.

Now, the hoodie is a hot commodity—hotter than a hot chick biting down on a hot dog in the hot summer sun, while her hotter sister throws back some hotcakes and ham from IHOP!…………………………..

………………………Sorry about that my roommate took over the computer; he’s got a weird obssession with the waitresses at IHOP. Okay, now he’s asking me to post a picture of him in case the IHOP waitress reads Ahoodie.com. Alright, here he is (it’s from his summer at SpaceCamp last year).

Anyway, as I was saying, unlike Madonna after 80 years, the hoodie is still in its prime! Today hoodies are worn by the likes of the young and old, rich and poor, gangster and wigger, and no fashion label is too posh to feature a hoodie in their collection, no matter how much you are unable to justify dropping a grand on a sweatshirt.

All in all, the hoodie has proven itself to withstand the tests of time and trend, placing itself at the head of  fashion among the likes of other such famous garments as pants, the t-shirt and the speedo. So to the hoodie, we at Ahoodie say: Keep it real! Represent!
